Question on House Paint...

This spring we would like to update our house a bit on the outside and that includes some paint. We have vinyl siding that is a tan color. currently our house has a green door and shutters. We have a one story and outside photos of the house can be found below.

I created this little photo of a house on the Sherwin Williams website. It is so much fun to play with their paint colors! This is what we were thinking of doing.

What do you think? Do you like the dark brown shutters and red door?

  1. Don't forget to factor in the roof color. That being the case keep the green shutters and go with a red door.

  4. I recently found your blog through Leigh Ann's and I thought I'd comment on this post about paint colors.

I love the brown/red combo. I'm a designer and have worked in residential architecture for a while; in my professional opinion, you are spot on with your color choices. The brown will contrast nicely with the landscaping and the red will pop the entrance. With your door recessed, it isn't as obvious when approaching the house (or at least that's how it looks from the picture) and the red will attract the appropriate attention. I would stay away from painting the garage door brown as it would dominate the front of your house even more.
